What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is an ancient medical therapy used to prevent and treat diseases. It has been used in China for more than 2000 years and is recognised worldwide by WHO - World Health Organsiation - as a reliable method of pain management and treatment.

Acupuncture mainly consists of inserting hair-fine, sterile needles into specifically-chosen acu-points. This procedure is completely safe and comfortable. These acu-points will be determined by Dr. Yang for each individual person after a consultation in which she can make her diagnosis. The needles are usually left in for around 20-30 minutes, depending on your condition and what the aim of the treatment is. During this time, you remain lying down in a comfortable position - people often fall asleep! The specifics of each session will be tailored to the individual and will be discussed with you with Dr. Yang.

There is an almost endless list of conditions and problems that acupuncture has been known to help in the past, some of which has been listed in the 'About' section of this website. Feel free to contact Dr. Yang to enquire about how she can help you. Alternatively, there is a link to the website of the Association of Traditional Chinese Medicine at the bottom of this page where you can find out more.

Dr. Yang will let you lie comfortably on your side, before placing the end of the hollow candle inside your ear canal and burning the other end. You will feel just a little bit of warmness inside your ear and hear some hissing noises. Many young children enjoy it.
